Here is my class schedule, information about classes and a few items we use in class. No talent required. It is best to start with my Beginning Art class where you learn the basics. Everything you need to learn about drawing. It is essential if you want to learn to paint. Drawing is the skill you need to do any of the painting mediums - pastel, acrylic, oil and watercolor. If you can't draw a chair - you can't paint a chair. You will learn how to "see" like an artist, do perspective, become familiar with negative space. Once you complete the Beginning Art course you may consider learning to paint. It's all individual.
Every one of my students started with Beginning Art, whether it was here at my house or at Assabet After Dark in Marlborough, MA. Betty Edwards book "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" is the book used for Beginning Art. Once a student begins painting, they then have their own "gallery" on my website. Check out their awesome Student Artwork. Their work is varied and they are welcome to explore whatever inspires them. Animals are a favorite theme in my studio classes. Because space is limited at my studio, students work from their own photographs. A painting means more to the viewer when the artist is present in the painting.
At this stage of a student's art education, the emphasis is on seeing - color, shapes, values, how does the light hit an object. A few weeks of color mixing is involved so the student becomes familiar with the palette and all the wonderful combinations are available. Painting is a series of corrections and also a series of experiments. Painting is very forgiving. If something doesn't work - you can just paint over it.
My studio/classroom in my cellar is small, only 7 to 8 students per class so there is lots of individual attention and assistance. Classes are casual and a great way to relieve the stress that comes from every day life.
Class times are listed here: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday classes are available to fit your schedule. Class Supplies show what is needed in class whether drawing or painting.
