The Galleries
I love to paint. Everything. Anything. I love to paint in oil. It calms my head. Most times I work from my own photographs. Sometimes I work from Still Life. Sometimes I feel like playing in an abstract. My art reflects my passion for nature and all its creatures. Everything is a about color and light. Color is something I need. My last teacher, Helen Van Wyk, gave me color, taught me how to make color and how to see light and shadow. My life changed in the summer of 1993. After painting for many years, I finally learned to paint. Since then I am determined to paint as many things as possible. These skills I learned from Helen Van Wyk I pass on to my own adult art students. Painting is magical. Time stops for a moment and we slow down in our fast moving lives. I start from scratch - build my own canvases - stretching them and adding a coat of gesso (helps the paint to stick to the canvas). This makes each painting mine from beginning to finished product.
Some of these paintings have note cards available. I make the cards from nice matte photo paper. Some people actually put the little 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" cards in a frame. The cards make nice gifts.

AbstractWhy abstract. There's something very freeing about exploring the shapes, colors and spaces of a canvas. Challenging. I'm still working on this. I keep painting over the abstracts I have already completed so there are not many paintings in this gallery. More to come.

Animals and BirdsAnimals and Birds, can't paint them enough. I adore wildlife and feel fortunate when I am able to capture them in paint. My favorite subjects? Lucy and Coal, my cats. Each creature I paint has such an amazing personality. They each have a spirit I try to capture with my brush.

Floral and Still LifeFlowers are so beautiful. I love to emerge myself in the colors and petals and interactions with their environment. I think flower painting has become a very favored subject.
Still life helps my painting skills. It gives me time to study my subject of the moment, sometimes flowers, sometimes, nic-nacs from around the house. |
LandscapeMassachusetts, Vermont, sometimes Florida. Tower Hill, Lake Champlain, my mother's Auer Family Boat House, Moore State Park. And, of course, my garden in Worcester, MA. All my favorites.

PeopleWhen I want to be particularly challenged - I do portraits. I love painting older people. There is so much story in their faces. So much life behind each expression, each wrinkle.

Sold PaintingsI feel so blessed! I've sold more paintings than Van Gogh! However, it's not about selling them, it's about painting them.
